Joy’s Year Of The Return
For years, I wanted to travel back to the Motherland. Unfortunately there were so many negative mindsets that had been imposed on me concerning Africa that kept me from making that visit. Over the years, however, I have been feeling such a strong connection to the continent through growing in my own understanding of our ethnic history. So when my best friend who is a travel consultant decided to design a “heritage tour” to Ghana, I couldn’t resist passing up the opportunity! I am SO glad I went because I learned so much about our history and where so many of our cultural practices originated. My best friend was very…

Six Words that Made me a Brand Ambassador for Discovery Cove
Guest Post by Carmen Daniels Jones Swimming with dolphins was on my bucket list for a long time, but as a paraplegic I wasn’t sure how this would happen. After some research, I found Discovery Cove in Orlando. I learned they provided park accessibility including the dolphin swim! So, with a lot of zeal and excitement, this single, wheelchair-using Momma and her little girl set out to for a memory-filled experience. Upon our arrival, we were greeted at the main entrance and directed to registration. We received additional instructions, and told there was a beach chair I could use to maneuver throughout the park and beach areas. I felt great.…

I Did It Scared in Malaysia and Life Will Never be the Same
In Puerto Rico it was zip lining and rappelling through a rain forest. In Paris, it was experiencing the marks that African American artists and entertainers had left on the city during the Walking Spirit Black Paris Tour. Oh, and let’s not forget about the escargot! In London, it was dining on afternoon tea in Harrod’s then dashing off to West End to see a play. In Tuscany, it was a beautiful bike ride through the country side and around the vineyards. I’m an experience junkie who craves new experiences, and travel is my way of satisfying that need to see the world around me differently and with new eyes.…

When Bangkok Shook Me Out of My Comfort Zone
My first trip out of the country was my ultimate dream trip. During the formative years of my life, Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, crepes, and croissants were where my “places I want to go” list began and ended. After London and Paris, it was difficult for me to even think up where I wanted to go next. My travel dreams had already been fulfilled. But being the experience junkie that I am, I quickly built a list of about 20 places and slowly started to check them off 1 x 1. After a few years of living and saving up for my next adventure, the opportunity to visit Italy…
